Q: I thought whether my child can learn well is purely determined by his or her general ability, or people call it 'intelligence'? So, there is not much we, as parent or teacher, can we do anything to get around this endowment?

Understanding human intelligence has a very long history, and it has does have its predictive power in some clinical and vocational settings. However, concluding whether a learner is learning well simply by his or her intelligence level is an oversimplification.

Successful learning does not only hinge upon one's intelligence or teachers’ ability to teach, there are also aspects of individual differences that are known to influence learning.
